Often times, we are overloaded with little tasks everyday. Little bits of work can often overwhelm us and fill up or day. Usually we start by knowing the most important task we need to do for the day. And we have every intention of completing this work. But then the little tasks come in and by the time we feel that we've accomplished all those little tasks, we already feel burned out and we no longer find time, energy and room to finish the big important task. To be able to accomplish the things that we need to do first, we have to prioritize them no matter what.
Determining the most important thing that we need to accomplish for the day is a great way to make sure that they get done. Because if you don't know what you want to accomplish, if you don't know the more important things that need to get done, you're unlikely to complete this work or even prioritize it in the first place. A simple way to do this is list down the things that need to be done for the day, and prioritize which needs to be done first. This way, you will know which are the more important or bigger tasks. The task with the biggest long term impact is usually the one that's most important.
Keep the list relatively short because if not, you might write a lot of things that you think needs to be done, Although not necessarily today. If you create a very long list, tendency is you will feel overwhelmed and you will not be able to accomplish anything on the list since they're too many. An excessively long list of things to do is a sign that you're not prioritizing things. This will lead you to do one thing after another and tendency is, you start doing a new task although you're not done with the previous task yet. So keep the list short and prioritize the more important things that need to be done. If you can't figure out which things need to get prioritized first, this means you need to refocus your priorities before you even attempt to get anything done.
Keeping your list of important things to do short will also allow you to have more time, space and energy for the little tasks that pop up out of nowhere that needs to be done immediately. Most little tasks that pop up, usually don't amount to anything whether they're done on time or not. However there are little tasks as well that pop up that needs to be done or taken cared of right away. So it's important that you still have the time and energy for these types of things.
Once you've come up with the list of the things that you need to do and once you've determined that you will indeed have time for the little tasks, then all that's left to do really, is the bigger more important tasks.Get them done first, no matter what because that's when you still have the motivation and enough energy to do so. Then leave the end to the little tasks which are usually automatic and just require little work.

Your article is very motivating!! I give you a credit for your excellent way of explanation. I agree with you first you do the most important long time needed tasks in order to have energy to complete. Later, you move to the little less important tasks which still need to be completed for the day. I use this method all the time and in the end of the day if I did not complete the little tasks, I still accomplished a lot by completing the most important high priority tasks.
